Each year we sponsor several students to participate in the annual String Fling, an elementary and middle school orchestra event held at Kansas State University. The 2004 "String Fling" at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. This year five of our string students attended the annual "String Fling" at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. This annual weekend long event is for middle school students from throughout the state of Kansas. At the String Fling, eight different orchestras are formed, consisting of students from grade levels, 5 through 8. The students rehearse all day Saturday, Sunday morning, and then perform a concert on Sunday afternoon. This year our rehearsal time was cut short, and our concerts were moved up to Sunday morning at 10 AM, due to our snowy weather. This was the very first large orchestra experience for our students, and they performed very well. The students received their new music on Saturday morning, and had no opportunity to see it or practice it before the event. The students all played their new music very well! After rehearsal on Saturday, our students all went swimming and then out for dinner. A great time was had by all! Our students look forward to the String Fling next year, and other similar opportunities to play music together in an orchestra setting.
